A Deeper Look into the Metaverse
THE METAVERSE IS HERE
There has been buzz in the technology world. People are talking about the Metaverse and Web 3.0. We’ve seen it come up more and more as we move deeper within the technological revolution. With many integrating their daily lives within the digital space, companies are investing exorbitant amounts of money into the Metaverse. According to the Citi report, "The total addressable market for the Metaverse could be between $8 trillion and $13 trillion by 2030, with total Metaverse users numbering around five billion” (pg. 3). This rapid increase to be a part of such an expansive intangible landscape begs the question: What exactly is the Metaverse?
WHAT IS THE METAVERSE?
The Metaverse, to put it simply, is a virtual reality space where humans can interact within virtual environments in an immersive setting. This space can be accessed through the internet and/or AR Lenses. There are two types of environments in the Metaverse: closed and open ecosystems. A closed ecosystem is similar to Fortnite, a game where users are immersed and battling it out with 3-D characters from all around the world in closed environments. Open ecosystems have multiple environments interwoven and interacting with one another operating on one type of currency whether it be USD or cryptocurrency.
THE METAVERSE AND WORKPLACE
According to Forbes, “The metaverse will be a game-changing shift to the operational challenges companies consistently face.” During the pandemic, the working class saw a huge spike in remote work and many companies shifted from brick and mortar work environments to virtual environments to offset pandemic restrictions. Being immersed in an environment that nurtures autonomy such as the metaverse allows people the ability to explore parts unknown and create unique unimaginable worlds.
This form of reach allows us to globally connect within Web3.0 and grants us the power to become autonomous beings without restrictions of the physical world. So much of the physical world limits how and what we do on a daily basis. Being able to be immersed constantly in communication with companies in real-time without physically being in a space together has elevated and advanced the modern workplace.
