Karlie Kloss's Digital Wearables

KARLY KLOSS HAS A KLOSSETTE IN THE METAVERSE

Many celebrities are entering the Metaverse and claiming their stake in this virtual landscape. Among the celebrities leading the charge is Karly Kloss, the supermodel who has walked for most of fashion’s elite. Kloss is excited about the future of the Metaverse and is collaborating with gaming giant Roblox to create the “Fashion Klossette Designer Showcase”. From July 12 through July 25, 5 pop-ups will run throughout the Roblex gaming platform consisting of elaborate designer NFT pieces worth 50-100 Robux (the USD to Robux conversion rate is roughly $1 USD to R$100).

Kloss believes that digital and fashion designers share a similar interest in creating spectacular pieces and the only difference is how these pieces are created: fashion designers sew and digital designers code. Digital designers have the advantage of creating pieces that can exist only in the virtual world as opposed to the physical constraints most fashion designers come across when creating haute couture or ready-to-wear garments.

KARLIE AND THE METAVERSE

Karly Kloss has had a keen interest in the digital world and coding for quite some time. At an early age, Kloss was enamored with gaming systems such as Nintendo 64 and grew up learning how to code. Leading the charge, Kloss created coding camps after her success in the modeling world. These coding camps were created to get girls and nonbinary individuals more interested in coding since coding is male dominated industry. Kloss stated, “I understand why people are a little bit overwhelmed or confused by the Metaverse,” she says, “but the reality is, I believe we are already deeply immersed in kind of connecting and communicating in a virtual capacity.”

Digital designers such as 23 year old Samuel Jordan are among the designers designing and coding outfits for the “Fashion Klossette Designer Showcase” on Roblox. Samuel has been coding since the age of 14 for Roblox and used inspiration for Kloss’s line from the streetwear worn by Miami locals in his home state of Florida.

CELEBRITIES IN THE METAVERSE

Karlie is not the only one creating these virtual experiences. Celebrities and musicians alike have begun to create experiences on the Metaverse such

as Lil Nas X and Charli XCX. These musicians have already performed on the Roblox platform with immersive concert experiences during the

height of the pandemic.

Many big name designers are also creating digital wearables for gamers and users of the Metaverse including Gucci, Vans, and Nike. Among the celebrities leading the charge, professional skater Tony Hawk, is currently creating the largest skatepark on the Metaverse.

In recent years, digital designers have been able to enter various digital design competitions just like fashion design competitions but on the Metaverse. The Zero.10 app recently posted a competition on their Instagram instructing up-and-coming digital designers to enter the competition with their own digital designs.

VIRTUAL SHOWROOMS AND BEYOND.

There has been a shift in the fashion industry with many brands wanting a stake in the Metaverse. High fashion luxury brands are interested in creating virtual spaces that include their lines on the Metaverse. Seeing the need in this industry, high fashion technology firm, The ORDRE Group created ORDRE Meta.

ORDRE Meta allows brands to create unique virtual showrooms to mimic physical showrooms in the real world. These showrooms move three dimensionally within the virtual space with guides. These guides either take the buyer through the virtual space and/or allow the buyer to see the garments in the virtual space. Upon clicking on the clothing rack in the virtual showroom, an interface pops up of models and the buyer is able to explore through the collection seamlessly. These virtual experiences have the option for the brands to create 360° imagery of the models and accessories produced by ORB360° making the buying experience a lot more immersive and realistic.

The Metaverse is an ever expanding virtual world and is creating a link between the real world and the physical world making elaborate unconventional designs come to artificial life. With celebrities moving fast to create their versions of virtual reality, the Web3 world is becoming more of a reality.
